Midwest’s largest Outdoor Blues Festival featuring international, national and regional music acts. The festival is three days of great music and great food, with over 300 acts. 20,000 people come to Duluth for this annual event! Fans like the backdrop of the Aerial Lift Bridge, the ore carriers and the cool breezes off Lake Superior, while listening to the blues. Bayfront Blues Festival will take place in Duluth’s Bayfront Festival Park on the city’s Superior Bay waterfront off Lake Superior on August 10, 11 & 12, 2012.
Parking is plentiful but be prepared to walk about a mile to reach the park entrance. Some people plan to spend all day, while others spend a few hours in bright, hot sunshine, enjoying the music, the views, and the people watching. Then they take a break and a trek back to their cabin; add a layer of clothing for the cooler Duluth nights, before returning for the headline acts.
The best place to set up your folding chairs is between the main stage and the acoustic tent (smaller, covered, considerably more intimate, chairs provided). Music alternates between the two stages, with smaller acts on the acoustic stage while the large acts set up on the main stage – the audience migrated between the two venues.
Some patrons love the main stage’s loud and fast music, with screaming guitars. While others enjoy the more intimate acoustic tent, with throbbing soulful, slower tempo, “don’t you wrong me” vocals, keyboard, harp, and sax.
You will not go hungry at the Blues Festival. You cannot listen to blues without great BQ. Snack on Famous Dave’s barbecue, Rampagin’ Cajun fare, Kosta’s Gyros or anything and everything on a stick. And don’t forget the cheese curds or curly fries. For desert, cool off with an ice-cream treat from The King of Creams. You purchase food and drinks with tokens, which keep the lines moving quickly. There are plenty of porta-potties, which keeps these lines moving fast too. There are also hand-washing stations with soap and paper towels!
After Hours – Festival Nightlife -For blues fans that are looking for a little action after the festival closes down each night, better than a dozen Duluth clubs are providing live music each night. Check their website for participating bars and restaurants. http://www.bayfrontblues.com/
Ticket Packages are the most economical way to attend the event if you are planning to spend at least three days. All Single Day Tickets are purchased at the front gate ticket window on the day-of-show.
Who are you looking forward to seeing this year?
